496HO Fuel Filters
I'm heading to the lake this weekend to get the boat ready and want to change the fuel filter(s) and water/fuel separators. I've owned the boat two years and this is the first time tackling this maintenance.
Both motors are 2008 496HOs. After doing some digging I'm more confused now than when I started.
Can you help me identify the parts I need? Here is what I'm thinking I need:
- 35-892665
- 35-8M0093688
OR
- 892687A02
- 35-892665
Then:
- 35-802893T
Thank you for your time!

- 35-8M0093688 is for the water separating filter that you need, http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...88&FORM=HDRSC2
OR
- 892687A02 is for the cartridge assembly for the fuel filter that you don't need unless it was damages somehow. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...87A02&_sacat=0
- 35-892665.. Same as the disk mentioned above for the inside/bottom of the Gen 3 module.
Then:
- 35-802893T... This style fuel filter is for bravo engines made before/right up to 2005 and all Alpha stern drive engine models to date..... http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...3T&FORM=HDRSC2

Some beforehand homework for you before heading out, http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercruise...iser40.html#/8
Bring some long needle-nosed pliers to help get the bottom filter disk out.

Spin on fuel water sep filter is not for his app. 2008 all had Gen III cool fuel. Just saying.Actually Gen III cool fuel all start for model year 2006 Merc engines with Bravo's - black side.
As mentioned in my post the first 2 set of numbers in the OP post is what you need for the GEN III cool fuel.

All the new service literature at the time of release basically says late 04 which to those reading that might not be aware = early 05 to Mercs standards.
Situation: SB 2004-06R SEPTEMBER 2004: A new generation of the MerCruiser fuel cooling system has been developed and released into production. The Generation III Cool Fuel System incorporates many design elements. The following information is provided for maintenance and troubleshooting of the Generation III Cool Fuel Module. Upon completion of these tests, if a problem exists, replace the complete Cool Fuel Module assembly.

Service manual # 40 posted above was made 11/04.

Thanks for the feedback! I got trigger happy and bought the filter and disc as soon as I posted this. Figured I was making it harder than it was.
I did also order the fuel/water separators. Whoops? Will I need them or will they be on the shelf?

the water fuel sep is the basket inside the cool fuel - I am so sure of this as if the OP has a Stock Merc 496 app 2008 model HE HAS GEN III COOL FUEL WITH NO SPIN fuel filter. Just for whomever that might be confused about the filters.
The numbers 23 and 28 like I said as in his first post for the part numbers
35 892665 the pad filter
35 8M0093688 as that number superseded and comes with Oring - You have to use the new O ring.
listed serial numbers close to yours 2008
here is one group and close to 2008
number 23 and 28 - make sure you use the new oring.

the bottom pad filter in the very bottom of the cool fuel is the most important and the basket the long paper filter sits in is the water separator - you have to dump that and check for water in a clear jar. again FYI for whomever if there is confusion about how the does it capture water.

And really to be tech about it all set ups really goes by engine serial number not persay year Just saying
