Tom, the 525EFI uses a cam not a LOT different than the Crane 741.
It also has Edelbrock heads.
Supposedly, the 525EFI makes about 35 more hp than the 500EFI.

So how much of that is from the heads, and how much is from the cam?
I would guess that you won't see more than 10-15hp by doing nothing other than sliding a 741 in your 500EFI.

There are better cams out there.

the 525 cam is the same as a 741 except the lsa is 114 vs 112 on the 741.imo it is a good upgrade for the hp500.the edelbrock heads on the 525 don,t flow any better than the gm iron heads on a hp500 so i don,t think the hp increase comes from the heads.

Will this cam work on a 500hp carb and is it worth the effort?

Thing I would be concerned about is what exhaust is on the boat?

What exhaust do you recommend BB? I've ran 741s with Gil high rise manifolds and silent choice for 2 years and no issues. Heads are off motors now and after a very thorough check, no signs of reversion.

I've seen reversion with 500hp cams and Gil's. I mention it as a word of caution. If he has Gil's I don't think the swap is worth the potential headache. Heck I've had reversion with dry exhaust. Just my .02

I'm running a 741 cam in my 509's, I had been running Gils with dry to the tip tails with no issues at all. I ran the same combo in my 454's, no issues. HP 500's with the low rise, short tails reverted, that was solved with the high rise tails.
