So, just got the survey results from a boat I was about to buy. Port 160,110,80,89,110,140,100,105. Starboard was just as bad. Oil was spewing out the breathers, gear oil was overflowing the resivoirs.

Best part was the add, it said "extremely well cared for!"

Money well spent. Seems like I recall advising to have owner or local shop to do one. Ya that hardly fits the within 10% rule of thumb. Glad you had checked out and hope others see this thread. If I recall it was on a power quest and about 4 or 6 hours away. Good for you!!! Sometimes things work out. If price would have warranted rebuilds that's one thing but if not then continue your search. I have a feeling seller more than likely knew. Difficult to say but not your problem anymore. It cost you less than a half tank of gas.

You should post what boat it is if the owner does not fix it or change the ad.

The owner ended up taking 15k less. The boat was clean so I bought it. Im going try to find a set of engines and drop them in, then sell the existing 502,s.

Hey -- if you are ready to ditch the 502's like now. Let me know. I have a buddy getting ready to rebuild 454's and really wanted 502's. He was planning on rebuilds anyhow so I don't think he would be opposed to it.

Let me know some details, year, injected, etc.

FYI -- he is S.E. Michigan.
