Jesel Belt Drive, Crank turns Cam and Belt Stationary

Went on maiden voyage on the F34 Yesterday, had fun while it lasted. Anyway, was cruising at 95 or so, backed off came off of plane and shut it down to take a look in the engine bay and check things over. Everything looked good but it was rough and took a wave to the back of the boat up into the exhaust. Go to fire it up and starboard motor sounded funny and wouldnt fire. Pop hatch and crank was turning, belt drive to the cam was stationary. :poopoo: Idled back on port motor. I believe I sheered the teeth off the cam belt at the crank.

Now, what are the chances of the valve train being in a position that there is no piston contact? No metallic contact noises. Going out to the boat to pull the belt off and see if I can turn the cam bye hand.

how lucky are you,its a 50-50 gamble.
test for compression after belt is fixed and then bore scope top of pistons.after that, its tear down time.good luck,,I hope you get lucky

Looking at the Jesel instructions it says to put #6 at TDC, WTF? Why not 1? Six is a ***** to get at in the gunnel.

Six and one are both at top dead center at the same time

when the engine is at tdc for #1,the dot on the cam gear will be at 12 o'clock.you will need to ge a straight edge to center of balancer to get it close.
your gonna have to strip the front of the engine.so you'll be able to see the dot.#1 and #6 piston will be at tdc.so just set it up dot to dot.and put it back together.you already degreed the cam,not that I like it but the belts should be about the same so cam timing should also be the same as before.

If that belt snapped like a fusible link and saved the motor that would be awesome. Still a pita, but better than toasting a whole motor.

That is the best case scenario, I have to dig into it, in the jesel instructions it almost looks like the crank pulley could spin on the shaft. Have to hit it with paint marker and bump the starter to see if the pulley stays stationary.

Just curious, why would anyone use a belt drive in an indurance application like a boat.

Good news kids, stripped belt it is.
