oil thermostat opening temperature is appropriate?
Ok guys. I have a 468 with a BDS 871. At 3500 rpm cruise my oil temp usually hovers around 140. Needless to say I get a lot of moisture in my oil and it does not burn off at that temp. Trying to remedy this on a budget. I have been researching some oil thermostats. Earls thermostat, mishimoto and another one by improved racing. They are all 160$ and under. The problem I see is that they open up at 180-185 degrees. improved racing has one that opens up at 215. What do you guys think? I thought 180 is too cold and 215 is too warm. What are your guys thoughts? Going this route would be $$$ friendly and easy to install.

I think 215 is perfect. As long as you're oil cooler can keep up . And water flow Ect. Keeps the oil around 220 to 230. Some like it lower. But I see no problem in the 220 230 range in the pan. ?

Thanks for the reply Rob. I'm assuming the oil cooler can keep up if it can hold it around 140 right now. I wish I could find one that opens at 200. I feel like that's a happy medium. Id really like my oil temps to be between 200 and 215. That's why I have been so hesitant to buy one of these suckers so far

I think I read on here somewhere that the stock HP500 oil thermostat opens up at 215.

Never used one, but Mocal says they have a 200*F thermostat. 12AN line sizes

Thanks SB. anyone have any experience with mocal? I think that may be the one. I need the 10an fittings too! I think I'm ordering it when I get home unless someone says to stay away from it!!! It's only 40-50$ bucks more but it already has the fittings included.

Mishimoto offers a 165 and a 200*F replacement t-stat for their tstat units for like $13.00 https://www.summitracing.com/search/...nt-Components/ |
I saw that you could replace the thermostat on that one but couldn't find the 200 degree thermostat. Now the problem is I have options and I'm very indecisive!!!!

I can delete one of my posts if you want. LOL.
