If you have the room, I use an Amsoil EAO76, it's 7.87" tall. It is certainly more then $8, but I run Amsoil synthetic oil two seasons.

I use the Wix racing filter # 51060R They are $11.29 at the local Napa.
I have also read bad things about Fram. |

some remote adpters use ford filters and not GM's
