True that! I made one years ago very similar, and put simple casters on the bottom of it. Adjust the transom's height with the tongue stand as mentioned above, and just slide it home.

There are several threads on here over the years on building your own. This is one of the most encompassing:

I now have a Yard-Arm drive installer that I absolutely robbed (bought cheaply) from a marina that closed up. It's the MONEY for this task.

I have the same Yard- Arm installer - bought it new 6 or so years ago, was pricey but worth it.

I actually "lent" mine out to a shop down the road from me about 20 minutes. He uses it everyday, so obviously beneficial to him. And whenever I need tools or parts; I have them in my hand in a matter of hours. It's a win-win for both of us.

My drive has a nose cone on it, which makes it tough getting the drive back on because it hits the rear of the trailer when all the way down, like you would have it when installing it. I put it on in two halves once, and it wasn't much easier, if at all. Like was mentioned, you have to shove something up to engage the splines so that you can rotate the input shaft. When I put the lower on, I didn't realize that I had forgotten the little coupler that engages the upper and lower shafts until I had started to fill it with lube!
