Should need 168 tooth externally balanced flywheel. Your 489 will not work due to being internally balanced. Do you have any history on the 502 you currently have?

your 502 ( if stock ) should be ext balanced from Mercury, if the 489 is int balanced go get a neutral flywheel, I just put a 168 tooth ring gear on a flywheel for an internal balanced 565

History on it was it run but not good ...so we go look at boat like it ..awhile c heckling it out ..I forgot to pull kill switch ,just to see if it would roller over easy or was it dragging.type deal ..will it busted off ..and we heard **** load of valve noise ...so I still ran a comp check on the odd bank 90-120 psi..so we knew going in it had upper end issues ,,well I went to hunting the issues ..with my chief mech ,,my wife she a gear head .so we start on the even back and notice the valves not moving like they should ..so we going reset the lash ..and find a bent push Rod ,,,call it a day ..go digging thru my spare parts found a rod ...go to putting rockers on .2 intake valve dropped out ..tunes out the keeper broke ..found all off it ..try to pull valve back up notta going to move ..so ..I start tearing it down to get out of boat ,,,bent valve ..3 piston. Not pretty,,, heads look good other then valve guide on bent hole ..so we r going to rebuild it .,,,I was thinking I could use the flywheel and balance on the 489

Not sure what the kill switch had to do with anything. There is a lot in your second post that doesn't really add up. Not sure if it's spelling or lack of English 101. Lol. You mentioned "will it busted off" ??? "After digging thru spare parts you found a rod". ??? If you plan to rebuild it which it sounds like it needs you should bring new flywheel along with rotating assm and have balanced. Have your wife pick up a BBC how to build book.

Not trying to bust your balls cause I'm not the fartest smeller (smartest speller) either but seriously reread your thread in the morning, long after happy hour ends. Lol. Seriously good luck though. You'll be awe-ight
