Wellllll it was a but easier than I could have imagined. Pulling off the rubber protective cover, I found the POS connection about rusted off underneath. 2 bolts on the alt two nuts for the connectors and two push connectors later I have a new Alt putting out almost 14volts at idle. the pos bolt was only hanging by a thread and broke off as soon as I out some pressure on it with wrench


now I'm able to change out impellers AND alternators...... lord knows what one can learn after 50

That is a very common problem. The connection on the alternator and the wire I think are under sized for the load. This causes both to overheat. I have had to repair both of mine on the SCARAB. When I rewired the Daytona I oversized a lot of the wires.
