Did you ever check cams to confirm lift and duration? Also did you install straight up and degree them? Something is not right? This is obvious as we all have come to the conclusion but need to get to the root of the problem. Those cams should easily make power over 6k.

I definitely don't think the answer to his problems is a "741" cam.

Heres a test of simply equal vs unequal length headers, on a 525ci bbc. Engine picked up 27hp at peak, 20hp average, and 16ft lbs average torque from 3000-6000rpm.
Id love to see a set of wet stainless marine manifolds bolted onto this engine. This engine then went back , was freshened up, a set of stock 320cc trick flow heads installed, crane 250/254 hyd roller, and made 725hp, and over 700ft lbs. Then they ported the trick flows, and ended up with 756hp. Hp peaks were at 6000. Torque peaked around 4800. 10.5:1 525ci mill. Dart intake, hvh spacer, 1150 dominator carb. They ran TFX pressure transducers in the cylinder head/exhaust port, to really see what was going on in the engine. |
My buddy bill said pull heads and intakes send to his dad, flow and port them, get perfect factual numbers, order a solid roller off that and make much more HP, my question there is how much more? Or do I run what I got to 150-200 hours and do that then at refresh time?

Assuming thats a tight lash solid roller by the cam specs. That cam seems like a better fit than tims 241/246. Pulled to 6200 in a 512 incher. Tim has a 540, with less cam. 6 deg less intake, and 7 less on the exhaust on tims cam. And some are surprised tims didn't pull very well to 6000, like he asked for.

The brodix "spec" BB2plus heads have been fully ported and blended. 2.300" intake valve. I can dig up the flow data if anyone cares. The resources are definitely there for Tim to take advantage of if he so desires. I'd consider tossing one of his cams in the cam doctor as well. |
