Worked on LOTS of Q-jets in my GM dealership days. I saw mentioned above some of the things to look for, (i.e. leaking under needle tubes into the base/well, adjusting the accelerator pump to take out the hessitation, etc). The Q-jet is a good all-around performer and cruising at lower RPM range will actually get a little better fuel economy (smaller primaries). A good all-around carb for what (it sounds like) you're looking for.
