What Carbs would you buy
Been doing some clean-up tweaks to old school closed cooled carbed Merc 454s - stock 330HP flavor. Time to replace the flaky and encrusted Quadrajet carbs with something new, off the shelf, bolt on. I dont trust myself to do the carb rebuilds right and I hear they suck anyway.
What do you guys like? What would you pick up and what would you do to them set-up wise? Thanks S |
Call Allstate Carb, NY I think, and just replace with same. If you change to Holley etc. you will need new linkage, brackets and connection from fuel filter to carb. Good luck.

Have someone who knows quadrajets work on what you have.
A simple 40 dollar rebuild kit is all you'll probably need. No sense in buying fancy carbs for a stock 330 engine. |
If you do decide to spend the money go with quick fuel! There product is top notch and when you order them you give them the engine specs and they set them up in the shop and they are 100% on the button out of the box! I upgraded this year from daemons and absolutely love them!

I went from Dominators to new Quick Fuel 1050s and love them.
|
Did you guys know Holley bought out Quick Fuel and Barry Grant ?
BG was long time ago. Quick Fuel was about 2 yrs ago. I guess the main people of QF just left Holley a week or two or so ago. Looks like the ol' buying up the competition deal. Doh ! |
It was my understanding that QF was started by guys that left Holley but I didn't know Holley buying them out.

Rebuild them, for stock motors no reason to reinvent the wheel. They are runners and rebuilt correctly should give you hours and hours of reliability. Not hard to do with kit
|
i rebuild q jets about 10 of them this summer for boaters.pm me if you are interested.

QJ's are about the simplest carb to work on.............send them to Mike
