Default Electric Hatch Actuator, Solenoid?

Does an electric engine hatch actuator ram with the motor (2 wire) on the bottom have a solenoid wired in line between the double rocker switch? My ram stopped lifting yesterday while on the water, but will still run (make noise) in the downward position. I only see the two wires coming out of a loom near the bottom of the SB engine, no solenoid nearby. Boat is a '96 Baja 302 if it helps.

I figure on testing the switch first, then a solenoid if one is present before pulling it for a motor rebuild.

Thanks for any help you can lend.

no solenoid, just a bunch of wires coming out of the back of the switch. Possibly one came loose. Basically what the switch does is reverse the polarity of the wires causing the motor to run in the opposite direction. I got tired of constantly fixing the electric lifts. I just converted mine to a bravo trim cylinder and drive trim pump. Opens up nice and fast now, even with people on the sunpad which is kinda fun.

That's pretty clever with the Bravo rams. Got any pics just for kicks?

Good info. Thanks. I traced the red and black wire (at the hatch actuator) back to 2 relay's on the SB battery. Now that I saw them I can no longer assume the red and black are power and ground, but rather forward and reverse for the motor (hatch up and down). Some of the wires coming off of the relay disappear into another loom, I'm assuming to the helm switch. When I tap on the hatch actuator motor with a hammer the up function works briefly. With that said I brought it to a marine DC motor/alternator repair shop to find out if it's worth rebuilding the motor for $60 rather then replacing the entire actuator for $360.

Interesting part of it all is the issue occurred 21 years to the date the actuator was manufactured.
