Default Engine swap

Planning to swap an engine in my 2000 crownline that was volvo v6 powered to a motor from a 96 mercruiser v8 setup. I know that the engine wiring harness plug is the same but are there differences in other parts of the harness other than the shift switch which can easily be bypassed. I'd like to just keep the merc harness if possible however I do have a complete volvo v8 donor engine /drive if necessary.
Thanks for any info!

You may have better luck posting this in the Do it yourself/boating on a budget section. This area here is pretty much the same ten folks thumb wrestling over which cam to use with which blower.

If you can get a volvo v8 ratio (1:51:1) is far superior to the mercruiser alpha drive so I vote do that.
