Colapsed Lifter?
OK, if any of you read my post on the ticking noise, I pulled my valve cover and the rocker arms were tight and the set screws that are in them are in about the same place but one had slop in it so I removed the rocker arm and the pushrod was not bent. So does this mean that I have a colapsed lifter:confused:
Sorry about the ignorance of this post but I have never dealt with anything like this before:rolleyes: |
That or a missing cam lobe
|
Sounds like a cam lobe going away.
|
So should I pull the intake apart and check the lifter first, how do you tell if the lifter is bad:confused: Also if I had a worn cam lobe wouldn't I see shavings in the oil or something:confused:
Alfster, check your PM |
Is it a roller or flat tappet
|
IF the lifter is colapsed when you push on the push rod without the rocker arm it should move slightly up and down. If it doesn't move than it is colapsed. If it does move than the other possibility is that the cam lobe is going away. If you have a dial indicator ar can get one compare the lift at the pushrod of that lobe and another ( make sure they are the same - both intake or both exhaust )

OK, I just tried pushing on the pushrod with the flat side of a crecent wrench, and I am pretty sure that it didnt move:confused:
