This calculator is fun to play with when all the cam info isn't readily available.

With parts out of the box I think "L"
|
K is pick # 1 / C is pick # 2

Isn't the real trick to figure out which cam makes the most power early - based on the average power from 3500 up.

from the info listed i will go with H.
|
This should be interesting. Are you going to average every 100 or 200 rpm?

Meaning like, say, 650HP is better at 5500 than at 6000?
That's what I think anyway |
if we were looking for power above 6000 rpm my choice would be different.

sort of. Since it is an average it just as important to make power at 3500 as it is to make it at 6000. So your peak power is going to be below 6000. It is a game of maximizing area under the curve.

I'll go with G
|
I'd use cam G but put 1.8 rockers on for more lift. That will change the duration numbers slightly but I want the lift for high end flow. Great project, thanks for sharing the info.
|
I am going to pick G, just because it is the closest to the cam that I am using. Although my engine is nothing like the one listed. G----final answer
|
Are we allowed to phone a friend?
|
bottom of the page racing(BOTPR) says M.:D
|
My money is on "J" .. We used this cam on a 10:1 533 and it performed well throughout the range.
|
Im gonna start running some simulations tonight. :bong:
|
Not sure how it relates to average numbers but I've always tried to get the max torque and horsepower to be the same. They will be at different rpm's but I feel the camshaft is maximum for the cubic inches when this occurs because the torque number is usually the largest. A bigger horsepower number usually involves higher rpm and lower torque peak numbers. If the torque max is larger than max horsepower it's usually down low the rpm range and high end horsepower suffers.

M then K and let's hope those abbreviations are incorrect. M on a 112 would neat to see. The 651 has a nice flat curve also.
|
I (651)

I have a favor to ask though and when you complete if you could use the winning cam with 305 AFR CNC heads. That would be interesting to see same set up with same cam only head change. Might do some side bets on that one if you'd post it some time. |

I ll take the 741 (but can you advance it another 4 degrees)
The 741 Cam, made the most AVERAGE power, from 3500 to 6000rpm. |

Joe I'm pretty certain many appreciate what your doing though. It's real decent of you. I realize it's not spot on however seemed fairly close from others you did in the past.

You ALMOST had it man. The 741 is the winner. However, once I advanced it 4*, it lost. :party-smiley-004:
