I've had the Hardin Stainless for 3 seasons now and love it. I took a die grinder and ported the pump and polished the openings that the impeller rubs against to reduce impeller wear. I actually pull the impeller out when I winterize so it doesn't take a set. I have found that the impellers actually last longer with the stainless housing vs the plastic. Using this method the impellers look almost new after 2 seasons which is when I change them anyway. I don't notice any difference in oil or water temps between the first and second season on the impeller so I know it hasn't lost efficiency. I use dish soap to lube the impeller and hoses and I find it works as well as anything else. If your hose doesn't slide on easily with dish soap it needs to be replaced, mine goes on pretty easily.
I like the idea of bumping the motor over during storage and will be doing that as well.
