Adjustable guide plates

Any preference btwn dart and comp. They look pretty much the same. Also any known issues or precautions using these. Any mix matches on build with using std plates and adjustable plates. I'm just trying to get as much in advance as I can for builds. Thought about getting a set of the traditional non adjustable comps and set of adjustable.

Crude Intentions 01-25-2017 08:08 PM

Why would you get 2 different ones? I'm also curious on replies to the adjustable guideplate thing.

sutphen 30 01-25-2017 08:10 PM

I seem to always get the darts,,they work great, beats cutting and welding the stockers.

mike tkach 01-25-2017 08:11 PM

i use the dart ones, easy to use and easy to follow directions.

I'm building two engines and have seen in cases where a std non adjustable might work fine depending on what int and exh and others that needed help in the same engine. Ya I know sounds messed up but true.

Darts they will be.

Lee 01-25-2017 08:37 PM

Dart, Make sure to Loctite them.

If your doing any new rebuild even with stock cam etc they help alignment big time. BBC has issues from the start as it is.

No doubt.

I have had 2 Dart snap the little fork guide. Don't know what came first, the chicken or the egg. I'm eliminating them all together and going with Yella Terra rockers this year. They are nice pieces and a cool design to eliminate side to side movement and deflection.

That's why I wanted to start this thread. It doesn't surprise me they just look underbuilt.

I went over them at PRI. It's tough to explain how they work, but with the mounted base pinned and shank/stud it is pretty neat.

I just looked them up and watched a YouTube video on them. Pretty cool. Pricey but when you compare to the price of an engine tear down and who knows what parts destroyed - well worth it. I only saw the video on the ls ones. Evidently their built in Australia. Their getting their chit together over there since they stopped killing so many kangaroos. Rookie on the BBC ones we'd use are the rocker sockets adjustable? Looks like they have set screw to hold the socket in place keeping the right angle/geometry. I might be way off on this??? Just took a quick look.

I'm going to have to have a better understanding with these. I'm just not seeing single stud mount adjustment. Explain a little when you can or a link.

getrdunn 01-25-2017 09:15 PM

Heavy duty for sure. I never realized anodizing process actually softens alloys so clear aluminum only. Learn something everyday.

Hard to believe.

That's ($1200) Australian money. Have no idea what the conversion rate is.

Seems like there getting with the program over there though. I didn't think they were into hp like we are here in the states or is it a shady way of US having factory's and plants there and get fed funding or some chit like that. Long ways to go for a break if thats so. They've got some cool stuff going on though. Blowers and all kinds of goodies. Imagine strapping a blower on a kangaroo fueled by meth. Lol

SB 01-26-2017 11:46 AM

Oh, they are with the program. And have been for a while.
CHI ccame from there. ProAction, etc, etc, etc

Amongst many other things, their Aussie ProStock using LS engines are unbelievable.

SB 01-26-2017 11:49 AM

Try 400cid LS at 1150hp. :) n/a !

T&D had that same design as "yellaterra" years ago. don't think they still produce it. I will send some pics to your phone. the pedestals still needed adj. left to right sometimes to center the roller tip on the top of the valve.

getrdunn 01-26-2017 03:57 PM

I just did a google search on "BBC shaft mount rockers". And hit images and went through and looked at all the pics etc. Some really cool products out there. I haven't looked in while and always ran old school stud mount rockers. I really like what I see to stablize valvetrain. Of course everything comes with a price but this is an area not to short cut and where probably 90% of engine failures start. What's the top few to consider these days? Not necessarily top of the line but an affordable alternative route to stud mount.

I didn't get your message til a week later btw. I felt bad... I was so busy with moving personal items from my primary house and was on a time line. Forgot how much I had in my garage let alone the shop. You need to get down here and buy a condo. If I recall I got a deposit from you once I will get it again. Course has been in spectacular shape.

Have you run those Redline series? I have seen the "inexpensive" shaft mount rockers from Summit or Jegs blowup on a dyno on the first pull 0.700" lift solid cam. That's when I changed my mind.

I'CE 01-26-2017 09:33 PM

no, but I have run the Jesels and T&D with success. like I said there are a lot of options out there "for get the shaft" rockers
