Questions about mounting rams on Lathem setup
Below are a few shots of my chaparral villainIII
I want to put lathem external steering (dual ram) setup on my boat but I have limited real estate on my transom. Can I mount the rams on the bottom of my swim deck? I don't have enough room between my gimble housing and my trim tabs to mount them on the transom.
Has anyone ever mounted the rams anywhere other than directly on the transom?

I wouldn't mount steering rams to bottom of swim platform. Structurally, it will not have the integrity of mounting to transom. This a key anchor point for the steering cylinders. Most external systems require that the steering rams are mounted on the centerline of the input shaft of the outdrive. That appears to be aprox. just above furthest tab cylinder. You may want to contact WPM, Marine Machine, Keith Eickert, etc. They may be able provide a special bracket.

Check with Imco. They have a short ram that might fit as is. But, it looks like you may have to relocate your trim-tab rams ?????
