I put a new 12k in my mainship forward stateroom last year about $1250, looking at replacing the 16k in the main salon this year.

Exactly what I did also.

On mine, I only drilled a hole in the boat for the discharge. For the intake/supply water, I tee'd in to my sea strainer with a valve. I just have to open the valve when I turn the a/c on , and close it when I'm done. The strainer also filters out the crap.

Ever mount the unit on some dampners? Mine popped a refrigerant line (100* weather and 7 hours from home of course) . I have it on vibration pads now but i`d like to find something spring loaded...just a thought

the main thing had had to deal with on performance boat apps is the water pickup, most do not want to add a scouped thruhull(understandably) without this style will loose prime to pump when you run, so you have to bleed everytime you use, can be a pain we set up with a bleed valve now and makes it easy

YUp, I have to bleed my strainer for the water level to come up. Joes strainers are higher I don`t think he has that issue.
