AC Units - installed

What is everyone using? This would be a new install on an older boat.

Rigger told me Webasto was like $4.5K for a 9,000 BTU unit, insane.

I found this one:
http://www.marinaire.com/Products-s/...FYS4wAodlkQB8A

Which I would be OK with, not sure on quality. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? this should be a $1500 upgrade, no? Does it really cost $5K to put AC in your boat???

Also, 6K BTU, or 9K BTU?

I installed a Mermaid 6500 BTU reverse cycle unit myself. It was a used takeout. Paid like 400 bucks for it. Bought a pump, some fittings, some hose, etc. Plumbed it all in, works great...cools my 38 Fountain cabin down nicely.

Agree with Mild, it doesn't take a lot to put one in. The big issue is if you have the space and willing to drill a hole thru your hull

On mine, I only drilled a hole in the boat for the discharge. For the intake/supply water, I tee'd in to my sea strainer with a valve. I just have to open the valve when I turn the a/c on , and close it when I'm done. The strainer also filters out the crap.

^^^Great Idea Mild.

I have no problem with the install, and drilling holes, it's the $3,600 for the unit that gives a little heartburn.... I know, I know, but I'm at my wits end spending money on this boat.

I also don't want to buy a used unit online without knowing if it's junk. I guess I've answered my own question. Just curious if anyone has a solution for say, $1500-2000 for the unit, fittings, and hoses?

I have been a mermaid dealer for over 10 years now, sold many, installed many, they have the best warranty(5 years) of any and have not seen much in the way of issues at all, I have 2 16500's that I installed in my gibson in 01, they get plenty of use, no issues as of yet, message me if you want and will help you set the thing up...Rob [email protected]

Should be around $1500 for equipment.

Ever mount the unit on some dampners? Mine popped a refrigerant line (100* weather and 7 hours from home of course) . I have it on vibration pads now but i`d like to find something spring loaded...just a thought
