Playboy getting Head

3 Attachment(s)
Had the pickup tube in the oil pan loosen up so I had to pull the engines out of the Bunny Lounge. So I decided to add some upgrades while they are out. Including some New Heads, Through Honed Extruded Intakes, CAM. I was running about 570 HP, before out of the 500EFI's. Just wanted everything to be freshened up and know where everything was at. Only draw back is that I wish I knew the situation in the Fall versus the Spring, but seems like it will work out. Looking forward to some other updates while in the process too.

Figured I would share some of the build since I am working with some of the OSO members.

Pulled the engines out at my buddy's Jason Shop. I unbolted everything and he was nice enough to use his Telehandler to pull them out. Loaded them up in the Dually!

I ordered a set of Big Al's Promax 317 Heads for the build about a month ago, he is waiting for castings, but assures me that I am first on list once the castings make it to the shop. According to him, he is expecting a shipment soon...like next week. I will provide some pictures when I get them from him as he does his completion of the heads. I decided that the best upgrade is to ditch the GM heads. I will share the Flow Numbers for others once I get them finished from AL.

I am also working on CAM selection....which is always a Hot Topic....lol . Eddie Young, will be doing the Final Tuning on the engines when I bring them down to Tenn. He is selecting the custom CAMs and I am going with Johnson lifters to work with the CAM Profile. Should be pretty Sweet. However as you guys know with any of these projects. The Rabbit Hole gets bigger and bigger.......But that's boating.

Jay Baker in Upstate NY is doing the assembly. Top Notch and great to work with. All working together to get a final product and hopefully meet the final goals.

I had a bunch of $$ offers for the boat in the past year, 35TS are still popular and the Playboy version is just on the cool side especially the Black and White original. But since my wife and I love the boat, it runs in the mid 80's mph and I purchased a new trailer, we decided to keep it. Now we are going to upgrade it a little more. I can't seem to leave things alone. lol

Looking forward to seeing and hearing the motors at the Battleship Run.

Al from AK Racing Performance has been great to work with. Always there to answer questions. He has been in contact with my builder. We just finished up and got on the same page of what we are looking at for installed height and seat pressures for my application. Al also told me that he personally contacted the castings distributor to try speed up delivery of the heads so he can get the ready to bolt on complete heads done. I have everything else ordered and machine work is being done now. At least I know with Al's heads, and now that he has the final specs, they will be ready to TRULY bolt on and be ready to go and make power/flow. That is piece of mind when buying heads.

Final Chamber size from Al is 121cc
Install Height 1.900"
140-150 lbs of seat pressure
400-420 lbs open pressure

Matched for the CAM and Johnson Lifters

Waiting on some parts from Eddie Young and also Al working on the heads.

My Wife de- greased the bilge, roughed it up with 180 grit and put down 2 coats of paint. Looking good.

Crude Intentions 05-17-2017 10:56 AM

Looks great. What paint did you use in the bilge?

This time I decided to Try Rustoleum with the Hardener from Valspar. Many have used it and have had good success.

Last Boat I had...the Top Gun...I used Bilge Coat, I found that it turned yellow and faded pretty fast and despite good prep seemed to take forever to cure

The Mistress I had, I did Red in Awlgrip, It was harder to work with and on the Spendy Side.

So we shall see. The white is nice and bright, and that is what I like, it was easy to apply and flowed really nice. I tend to keep a really clean bilge so I assume it will hold up well. I mixed up a 1/2 quart at a time with the hardener. So far I am pleased, but I guess time will tell.

The prep was Cleaned Bilge with Purple Industrial Degreaser from Tractor Supply with a pump sprayer. Power Washed. Then Light sanding with flexible sanding blocks 180 grit. Finally wiped everything down again with acetone and tac cloths.

Applied the Rustoleum Bright White. Brush and Small Roller.

Can't go wrong with Eddie Young. What is he supplying?
Don't forget to register for the Battleship, discounted registration is coming to a close. The wife just did ours.

Long ride to Tennessee but you will get a good tune. Besides a talented engine builder, he is a good guy.

cigrocket 05-24-2017 09:52 AM

Looking to be shipped out FRIDAY!. Can't Wait!

cigrocket 05-24-2017 12:45 PM

1.900" installed height

140-150lbs of seat pressure

400-420lbs open pressure

Matched with the CAMS Eddie Young Picked out along with the Lifters. Trying to keep it simple

cigrocket 05-26-2017 09:00 AM

Heads are done, Al has the Flow Numbers.....I will be sharing them. Al has been awesome to deal with, he even arranged the shipping and got a broker to handle the customs border. All I can say that I have dealt with many different marine businesses throughout the last 20 years of boating and all I can say is Big Al has gone beyond my expectations in terms of getting the product done, working with my builder, answering questions, asking questions and most importantly answering the phone and even contacting me after hours or the weekend. TOP NOTCH ALL THE WAY.....Now the proof will be in the pudding once the heads are on the new builds. I am sure they will make the target power!!

SB 05-26-2017 09:30 AM

Good to hear things are moving along.

What springs and valves are being used ?

adk61 05-26-2017 11:49 AM

adk61 05-26-2017 11:54 AM

SB have you laid eyes on the 317's yet? I am happy with how they work and equally as important the level of customer service I, as a distributor get from them...

as Kurt stated "the proof is in the pudding" my reply is bring a hearty appetite as the pudding is YUMMY!!!

Solid guy right here!!

cigrocket 06-02-2017 09:15 AM

Heads on my doorstep as promised by Big Al. Wrapped up really great and shipped via FEDEX. Can't wait to get everything together and get the Engines down to Eddie Young for DYNO days. Waiting on a few more parts to make it happen. Guess its a good year for it since the water is high and its been raining and unusually cool up to this point in the season.

cigrocket 07-17-2017 08:55 AM

Well, a few parts delivered wrong and had to wait on a few custom parts. But the Engines are done! Finished up last week. Now waiting on Eddie Young to Dyno Tune. Trying to schedule drive to Tennessee. I want to salvage half of boating season
