Default MSD coil packs on 496HO

Anyone ever run the automotive coil packs, MSD part number 82648? I need to replace a bunch of them due to rust.

Unless your going for looks and a lighter wallet there is no benefits vs stock IMO. The stock square ACDelco D581 coil packs have been proven in stock and 600+ hp 8.1l builds. They can be had online for around $35.

And there is 2 different generations of coils used for the 496. Gen 1 can be a prob sometimes for going bad.

It's running great right now, but on some of them the metal layers are starting to corrode and spread apart a bit... figured how's the time to change them before they start going bad...

Default 496 Mag Coil packs D581 or D580

I was looking at replacing the coil pack on my 375 hp 496 Mag (2002) and saw this thread. However, my coil packs look like Delco Automotive D580 not the D581 (Square type but both the PCM plug and spark plug wire on the same side).

Any advice?

thank you

Just buy His above. ebay and amazon lovers are buying the CHINA knock offs ignition coils and the same for spark plugs and fuel injectors. NGK, Denso, Delphi and AC Delco getting hit hard with CHINA knock offs parts actually more knock offs parts for sale that the original currently. I promise I know what I am talking about here. It is so bad now that these companies are sending out memos and online videos and even youtube videos about the knocked off parts.

CHINA has even knocked off the Mercruiser IAC as well. NO BS. They are selling for 45 to 75 bucks online. Have a Merc racing 600 sci in that the IAC knocked out the PCM 555 and that IAC was bought on Amazon over the winter. I trace it back and its orgin was China.

Like I said it so bad for cheap knock off parts that all are putting it on their own websites. Like I said all you ebay and amazon lovers buy away from unknown sources and unknown manufacturing sources.. Best of luck cause your going to need it. I have nothing to gain by telling anyone these statements except less issue with your boat and engines.
