moving the timing around without knowing where you are is like removing the pin in a blower motor, if wont idle try locking the dist(no advance) set it at 28 and try that, still flooding @ 3000 ????

Idling isnt the issue, it idles perfectly, it just wont get over 3000 with a load on it, it keeps flooding out

See the word it too much . This problem is with just one motor or both ? Just to clarify .

Just port, haven't gotten starboard.

Took the boat out yesterday and did some more testing, came to the conclusion that the timing on that engine has to be way off. Backstory, we set timing on both engines on a run stand at 12 i believe. installed motors and had problems with the starboard engine not being able to handle the trans load when put in gear and dying. Advanced the timing a little on that engine in the boat on the water (no clue what its base timing is now). Port engine is without a doubt flooding out at 3000, so for giggles I had a buddy accelerate while I advanced timing on that engine, got it to 3300, wouldn't spin any faster before starting to flood out. I would've advanced the timing progressively more but had clearance issues with the lift eye and ignition box. I think we are on the right track of it being ignition, my plan is to remove clearance issues and take it back out this afternoon and see what exactly increasing the timing will do for it.....thoughts?

this is your post about not wanting to idle..., you need somebody with blower experiance

How did u end up making out this summer. Get everything resolved?

TruxtonFox 11-29-2017 05:57 AM

Ended up getting everything dialed in, had to set the floats a few different times and get timing lined out. Just in time to sell the boat, have since picked up a 40’ navy hsb and am reworking it😊

Those are awesome. Make sure you fully equip it close to original. Might need it soon. Lol...

Lol, we are well on our way! Have a couple custom features
on this one that should make it more “civilian friendly”

what I do when I have a carb issue, I pull the flame arrester off and look down both carbs, engine off, and see who is wetter, front carb, rear carb, primary or secondary, then I go from there, I never do anymore work than I have to or create more work by guessing and tearing everything apart.
