Yup, both the mechanical pump and the VST have hoses that go to the engine in case their diaphragms rupture and pass fuel.

Also, have you checked fuel psi ? If too high, we can direct you from there too.

Replace the diaphragm in the VST. Depending on year the spring can go on the top or the bottom of the diaphragm, be sure to follow the instructions.
