This is a Gen VI 502 with serpentine belt. Getting to the seawater pump on the starboard side requires me to hang upside down for about an hour if all goes well. Wonder if anyone has ever tried to move the pump to the port side?

You have a hammer and a welder you can fit anything anywhere. It would take fabbing all new brackets from scratch. Would probably be easier to go with a v-belt setup or crusader-type with the pump hung straight off the front of the balancer. In the long run, probably to do the circus act. It is also something you DON'T want teenage boys doing while you supervise.

Starboard also has pwr steering that would have to go somewhere else. Then the molded water hoses don't exist for the new location. 20-30 hours into redesign you will find more reasons why merc put the stuff where it is. And if you do succeed? The water pump will never fail again.
