Oil Pressure Questions
 

Here is the scenario:

When engines are cold...at idle..pressure is pegged at 40 psi. run out the intracoastal out into the ocean and run the boat for a while at 3600 to 3800 and pressure slowly drops just below 40 psi at these rpm's..come down off of plane to idle and pressure drops really low and will stay there for a while and then come back up.

Over time, maybe 15 to 20 hours of use the pressure will not get as high as 40..maybe 35. this is probably due to viscosity breakdown.

Engines have about 350 hrs on them and run excellent.

Do I have a problem of just wasting server space? lol

I think you are fine as long as there is no engine noise when the pressure reads low.

Actually, there is a noise. Its like a clanking noise..it doesn't last long. It's like the noise when you tap on the water pump pully with a screw driver or something.

Sounds like the bearings in the bottom end are probably going out.

Oil temps?

Sounds like the oil is getting too hot and thinning out excessively. Probably hurting the oil. That is why the pressure drops even lower after a few hours. What engine are you running and what is your WOT rpm? Depending on your setup you may be lugging the engine and causing it to overheat the oil. If your WOT rpm is near 4600 to 5000 rpm you probably just need more oil cooling capacity.

Celtic Pride ..take an oil sample...that tells a lot. What oil and weight are you running???
