Thanks for all your opinions on this. I think from doing some more checking going to 540's is not the best idea. I have heard from a couple people that installing new cams and getting computers done is the way to go. Does anybody know someone with this setup so I can verify what to expect?

I agree.

I would shoot a private message to mark at MER performance. He worked on a 525EFI upgrade package. I believe the numbers were around 600 with a custom cam from Bob Madera, and around 640-650hp with an off the shelf lunati 242/252 114 efi cam . The custom 239/241 cam was hitting a wall.

this package had increased compression ratio, some porting of the edelbrock heads, and a few other things.

Changing from stock will kill one of the best features of a 525 in my opinion, being able to put any gas you can get in it.
