Most Mercury drive oil is NOT synthetic, the "high perf"(green) is Bel-Ray 413 with an anti-foaming additive. Oil temp is very important but certainly not the only factor in determining which oil is superior (top speed or longevity?). I have seen some "wonder lubes" that spall the propshaft bearings rapidly. But gee whiz they run cooler.
