Donzi Classic 18 upgrade
Wanted to thank many of you for your words of wisdom, technical capability and warnings while I did my "ground up on my Classic 18 2+3. .....Now that I've had it on open water, I've realized I want a little bigger boat. I like the rough water handling of the Donzi, but its a little too small...and while only intended on inland lakes (around 55mph), I'd like to pursue more.
Thinking I'd like to run about 100 mph ish...single engine...I think a Donzi Classic 22 will get me there, but don't like the look of the larger Donzi's and am thinking I need 24 feet or so....is there a boat about 25-26' length that you would recommend? |
Bump... thoughts?

Not 100mph but with the 300's, it would be a very nice ride.
(If you like the simplicity of low maintenance outboards) https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...-no-power.html RR |

i might be selling mine if you are interested. you would be hard pressed to get a donzi 22 in the high 70s let alone 100 mph. They are good boats but get unstable at higher speeds and would need an extreme engine to push it to those speeds.. Great boats but just not designed for what you are looking to do. |

Understand your points. To be more specific, I’d like to have a 100-mph boat but probably wouldn’t drive it there.... but big water like the Great Lakes is of interest and not look out of place when on an inland lake (where i live)... so thinking Classic 22 but I’ll look at the ones you mentioned... and if selling yours email me at [email protected]

Sandlot. I’m not a mechanic nor engineer. So what I’m saying is not gospel. It would seem to me that you are setting yourself up for disaster. A 23 ft boat doing 100 on Lake Michigan. Something has to give. Dozi Iss a fine boat but there are areodynamic limitations that you need to consider. It seems that is just too small of a hull to do what to want. Especially on big water. I would suggest that you consider a little larger and then have fun.

Buy Will Smiths 30' Phantom and be done. Great rough water boat. And in the right conditions easy over a 100mph

I agree with class6... I owned a 30 phantom and boat on lake Michigan. It will meet your requirements plus they have great lines imo. My old boat is also for sale, and runs 100+ I can put you in touch with the owner if your interested.
