Default Replacement starter

I need to replace my starter on a 500 EFI. Anyone have a good source for a new one - not looking for a rebuilt . . . . Thanks for any info.

Not sure if yours is a motor mount or not but I like this one a lot.

Just google permanent magnet marine starter. There are several manufactures and I have the API 10071 ( ARCO 30470), small and much more torque then the traditional Merc

I kept blowing up the ones from DB electric ($47), so I ordered a more expensive Sierra Marine starter ($140) and when it showed, it was the SAME POS that DB electric sells..

I ended up ordering a Mercruiser gear reduction starter and it's been good.

BUP sells API and I remember him saying THEY are good as well

Thanks got your email with phone number. Funny you are close to were I grew up in NY.

Also have Hi Torque starters but will add they are more expensive than API . API has a good warranty.

I will check in with you tomorrow (Wed).

Sierra and DB Electric starters has a few plastic internals that do not last over time.
