Default Gimbal Ring U- Bolt Lock Nut Torque Setting

The Mercruiser service manual says the 3/8" gimbal ring U- bolt lock nut torque setting should be set at 53#.

I thought I read somewhere that was a misprint and it should be set at 35#.

Which one is correct ?

Thanks,
Steve

The correct torque and I would do a 2 or 3 pass torque setting.

3/8 -24 U bolt nut is 53 ft lbs ---- 35 ft lbs was the wrong setting.

and

the newer style --- 7/16 - 20 U bolt nut is 50 ft lbs. There was a misprint if I recall correctly in 2007 that it was posted at 70 ft lbs. 70 ft lbs is wrong.

And I want to know if your exact sea strainer is stainless steel construction or Aluminum ?

You can send me pics to my email if you still have it. I think possible you do.

Hope the Racor LG 50 separator works out. I have installed them and they have worked in Texas. It is best to install them completely 100 % vertical.

Hi John,

The LG-50 filter is not 100% vertical, but not to far off. If it doesn't work, i will get it 100% vertical. lol

My sea strainer is aluminum 8" in diameter. The brand name was KPM and I bought it from Trick Marine in 2006. I don't believe they make them any longer.
I have had a lot of people ask me where I got it.

I have your card up in my garage with your contact info. I will take some good pictures of it and email them to you in the next couple of days.

Steve
