Default EFI opinions for SC BBC

Still collecting pieces for my build....525 sc upgraded to 575 blower, roller cam, roller rockers, forged pistons/rods(8.6:1 comp) planning on 6-7 lbs boost....on to the question and opinions....

I've ben toying with the idea of EFI instead of my 2 holley carbs and have decided that if I'm going to do it I will be using the FAST xfi sportsman 2x4 roots blower setup...price and ease of tuning are big factors....what's everyone's opinion on this system, has anyone used it or any FAST products, and is it a waste of 2400 bucks at my power level?? I was looking at it as I plan to do some traveling with the boat in upcoming years and instead of messing with carbs all the time at different elevations and temps, the fuel injection would just do it for me....am I wrong?? I'm also looking at initial tuning....the carbs came off of a merc 800 sc I believe soooo....instead of hours and hours of adjusting/potential jet changes I can just spend, from what I've read, 2-3 hours initial tuning and its done

What's everyone's opinions/thoughts??

Thanks

Stewart

Don't believe all the hyp on any of the EFI systems, they all have their short comings. Most can be made to work, some have more useless bells and whistles than others. You'll probably have way more than 2-3 hours of tuning involved to get it right. Self tuning is great if you can get the parameters set right for your application. Inconsistent, cold water temps need to be considered when making your fuel and enrichment maps. They can be great and they can be horrible, best of luck to you. I am a FAST fan, I've used them for a long time.

So being that you’ve used FAST systems....from a tuning stand point....I have absolutely zero experience tuning anything electronically....are their systems even setup for a novice like myself to figure out or would I have to pay a professional al tuner to do so??

yhanks

I would say FAST is one of the easier ones to use, download their software and see if it makes any sense to you. Even though they sell a marine ecm these systems are designed for automotive use, or maybe a closed cooling system with consistent water temperatures. You would probably be better off finding someone local to set it up. It can be tuned remotely if necessary as long as you have internet service, cell phone on the boat.

Might want to check if it is certified for use on a boat, don't see anything on the web page.

everyone seems to like holley the best this is what I am getting, if your o2 sensor gets wet with a fast system then you will run rich as far as what I have read. With holley you can turn off the o2 sensor requirement to the computer
