Let's hear cam suggestions
So the motor builder got back with me today and long story short I got screwed on the cam I bought...not even close to what I was told it was and its not even a roller cam...flat tappet according to comp...sooo that's all I'll say about that lol
Moving on.. 454 based...030 over dart iron eagle heads with 120ish cc chamber JE flat tops..shooting for 8.5:1 comp eagle rods CMI headers I'll post a pic of exhaust but its dry to tips I believe If not this year next year it will have a 6-71 blower at 6-7 lbs boost right now it will have a 256 blower at the same 6ish lbs but I'd like to build it for the 6-71 as that's the overall plan dual 800 holleys What I'm looking for in a cam... Obviously the best performance without sacrificing a few things I want it to give you goosebumps when I start it I want a good attitude around the dock..no stalling or having to feather it to keep it running Not sure if reversion will be an issue..I'll post a pic of the exhaust RPM range will probably be 5600ish maybe a little more..don't want to twist it too hard especially with the 256 So lets hear some suggestions guys.... Custom grind?? from who?? off the shelf?? I know the 731 is suggested a lot but is there a better option for my build?? Any help would be much appreciated Thanks!! Stewart |

this is my exhaust setup for reference

Comps huc lobes are nice. That's what I went with. Naturally aspirated 502s. They are designed to be easy on valvetrain. Longer duration lower lift setup. |
|
lol so pretty aggressive then??
|
I'd do the 741 over the 731 if you plan on going with a bigger blower at a later date. Not that I have any science behind it, but I believe there a many builds on here with the 741 blower combination and it makes good power.

I'll look into that thanks!! that's a crane 741 right?? also will that work in a gen 5 or whatever mine is with a cam button or do I have to upgrade to run the step nose with that cam??

this one is the 139021 and specs are slightly smaller than the 741 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-139671 this one is very close to the 741 and is the crane 139671 both of these will work in my engine from my research as the 741 is a step nose and requires the retainer plate opinions?? |
the 139671 has a 114 lobe separation...is that too much too little?? not a cam master here clearly hahhaha need some advise on these numbers because I kinda know what they mean but not really lol
