Got the fuel pump out, only thing that I didn’t like was one of the bolts holding the plenum down was only finger tight. I will put a new pump in just because of the difficulty removing. Also one of the bolts holding the distributor down was snapped. I will put a new coil on it and rotor. Thanks for the input so far guys.

So, you ordered a fuel psi tester but instead of waiting to use it you are going to throw a new pump at it anyway ? And then some other parts ? I don't get it.

Also, there is only one bolt holding the distributor in place. So, if this broke somehow (never heard of anyone doing that) the distributor can easily rotate and throw iming way off. Get this fixed and re-time before you touch anything else.

Thanks for the reply SB. Patients isn’t one of my strong points. Always looking for a smoking gun, besides it’s sunday and who dosnt wanna stand on their head while being cut in half in the middle. If I spend a few hundred for piece of mind that’s ok too.

I read the distributor bolt comment and thought you meant only one bolt holding the pump in place by the retaining plate. Did you actually mean the distributor hold down bolt?

Fix known problems first.

Diagnose and repair.

I took a different approach as it appeared to me if I am commonly nice to you you'd blow off the suggestions. Just trying to jam you back onto a reality seat.
You bought a fuel psi tester but changed the pump before you got it anyway.
You have a distributor that can move on its own since having no holdown, and are wondering about the module.

maybe i have it wrong.

The ignition module is inside the distributor, your surging which as I see it has no effect on the dizzy. Signals and or things are going to the ECM which is making it surge, maybe fuel pressure, maybe something else. Need to get some readings
