454mag mpi surging
Bought this 232 and took it to the lake finally today. Baja won’t run more than 49, takes seemingly too long to plane then above 3000 rpms it has a constant RPM surge of 4/600 rpms. Occasional pop like a backfire. Changed the fuel water separator, gapped the plugs and added 93 octane gas. Looking at the othe posts there’s no smoking gun. Any ideas would be appreciated. As a note, one plug boot appeared that it may have been hot, I will put new wires on it. Thanks guys |

I looked for obvious contaminants but didn’t see any. A failing fuel pump did cross my mind. Thanks for your reply |

Just under load. Yes the mph go up and down in sync with the surge. |
Trying to pull the fuel pump from the cool fuel system. The pump is audible but didn’t sound great. I may have a insurance fire. JK. ;) |
Measure your pressure at the rail

Ordered a fuel pressure tester. I’m leaning towards the pump going bad or the coil going out. |
Could also be the antisiphon valve on the tank, they can get gunked up over time

Im in the Dallas / Ft Worth area for any help. Fuel injectors might need to be address along with a thorough scan of the engine and diagnostic testing.
Have everything to properly work on marine engines plus the years of experience hands down. The fuel injectors are the last item that most people never think of but really should be in the mix esecially the marine side. They suffer in due time. Talking from experience from what I see when festing and flow testing fuel injectors. |
