I am planning on putting 177s on my bone stock 300 hour 454s in my 15,000 lb cruiser with arnesons. Plan is to add monster oil coolers, lose the closed cooling, run 4 psi and 4500 rpms max, prop small to minimize load, big fuel lines from pick-up to carb, run em rich, no mashing of throttle (hey it's an f-ing cruiser), upgrade electrics and watch advance carefully....and run 92 octane. :band: POS needs more torque to cruise better and I dont give 2 craps about top speed. This will occur in the fall when I have a pair of purpose built blower motors in the garage for when the old motors go BOOM and then I can finally redo engine bay and start over in the cooler winter weather. |

Use good fuel (91 min....or mix in some avgas with 91 to give your some error cushion when getting the carb set up)....retard the timing a couple degrees (or get some type of boost retard).........i bet it will surprise you with how long it will last assuming the engine is presently in good shape, adequate fuel flow and the "tune"/calibration is sorted out correctly (a lot of ASSumptions there).
Ive made some surprising power with stock junk and turbos for years (accross many engine platforms)......rattle it once and your done with stock stuff. |
