The thank you will wreck havoc on your engine. Please guys if you have no experience on what is going on here please google does not either nor is the correct way to fix anything period.. .

this bwd css 1620 is not even close to being correct its for the later models.nor is the standard one listed. jeez

I will put up pics of the one IN MY HAND WHAT IS NEEDED the correct cam sensor itself is shorter and the connector is NOT CORRECT for this css 1620. The standard is the same as the BWD will not work PERIOD. They are NLA regardless have to listen to someone that has successfully serviced way over 1000 - 496s. Yes way over 1000 496s. No joke

BUP...is the link you sent me the only part I need to order? This will fit on my engine without needing to replace any other parts...correct? If I call the number from your link, will you answer, if not, who should I ask for?

NO it is wrong it will be for comparison only the one in my hand is what you need. YOU WILL SEE HOW THE BWD CSS 1620 is wrong not even close. I am lost as I wored it in my post above that the BWD is wrong and is for later 496 models

BUP I know your the best guy on the planet so far as Mercruiser 496's, my issue is there are several 496's in many trucks and boats of the 2001 variety. They have been able to find replacements that do work. The BWD does appear to be longer but the Standard looks shorter. I know were just looking at pics. Not trying to show any disrespect, just trying to understand

I have them - the one in my hand is correct. Look at it then compare the standard and the bwd I posted the bwd link for comparison only. That BWD will NOT WORK FOR the early 496 s. Period. It will wreck havoc with the reluctor wheel even if you changed the connector to the latest connector.

I

have to go to O reillys today I will look at it - the standard one does look of a more fit but not sure if it is - might be for the 2004 models. This sensor has changed part numbers like 8 times thru out cause the reluctor on the cam gear changed 3 or 4 times .

I do know this for a fact the wrong cam sensor will do this cause --- a no start - or a start and badly back fire inwhich can suck water --- water reversion badly ---- I know cause I had boat owners buy their own cam sensors from online, then installed them , thats what happened to their engine. They finally brought their boats in for service to figure out what happened. I had to install my cam sensors and all was good after that. The water reversion engines - one - was totally ruined (the engine) - hydro locked it completely.

Some cam sensors were off like .020 thru .040 for a change in the gap even some were too long .040 or even less. The long ones can wreck havoc on the reluctor on the cam gear. Then you are SOL if that happens.

There is 2 different sensors --- one is for 2001 the other is 2002 - 2003 -- 496.
