It would be the left bottom pipe plug as you look at this pic Stainless Steel Thermostat Housing - CP Performance
Mine's in the same spot, looking toward stern at front of the engine, left side of the T-stat housing. I see 1-2 psi idle 8-10 at cruise, around 3k rpm but not much above 10-12 at 4400 rpm which is WOT for the 7.4 LX Mpi. Never see above 145* on either engine, impellers are new, running Harden SS impeller housings and through 1.25" brass flush valves. Actually had a little more pressure with Perko pro flushers.

Would more pressure be seen if the sending unit was mounted in an engine block water jacket?

Somebody must have installed 140* T stats at some point to see those temp readings. All of the 7.4 LX's use a 160* Tstat.
There is nothing wrong with having the water psi you have as long as it flows enough to to keep everything cool.

I'm feeling the same since everything is staying cool. After an engine pop the previous owner replaced all injectors and remapped both computers. It runs well, doesn't suck more fuel that it should, achieves top speed, doesn't soot the transom, plugs read good so it seems as if he compensated for the cooler thermostat with the tune.
