^^^^^^^^^^^what Steve (SB) said................and check the ground wire on the tach and make sure it's secure then trace it to it's grounding point and check that connection. Sounds like a ground issue since actuating any switch causes it to peg out.

That sucks. Don't quote me but i think the stock merc canister coil is .8 ohms and this must be matched when using a different coil ? That said, before I heard this, I had installed the HVC epoxy canister coils on several TBIV motors many years ago (10+) and still going strong.

Try running a ground wire from one of the dist cap screws to a good clean ground on the engine block. |
