don’t know what to do I’m a boater on a budget, it took me 3 years to save the cash for the boat I wanted. Knowing that boating is not cheap I’ve been saving money for 3 more years knowing my motors would have to be rebuilt at some point, and that some point is now (700 hrs and a pair of stock 454 mags). I have a time set with my engine builder to build me some 496’s, Ive been looking for exhaust and good lord that’s gonna cost me. What’s everyone take can i get away with stock should I buy EMI, stainless marine, imco? I’ve been reading on here about revolution marine exhaust but can’t find it anywhere any suggestions would be great

Well at least you don't have a boat payment. That's a good thing. What kind of power you looking at building 550-600? Being on a budget I'd look at some Stainless marine's or Gil's in the swap shop. There always in there. Just make sure there pressure checked and preferably fresh water. There's a lot of threads on hear in regards to exhaust. Do a search when you can.

There's 2 sets of Hardin marine Stainless headers a page back in the swap shop now. 3k for both sets. Just an FYI.
40fasthawk has them. Otherwise check with sick stinger.

Revolution Marine has been out of business for several years.
You cannot use stock exhaust with any significant cam upgrade.
You will need long risers/tail pipes that don't mix water until very close to the transom for any decent cam..
If your builder is a MARINE engine builder, then he should know what exhaust you need.

Exhaust is the worst part of performance boating. Ungodly expensive and can ruin an engine quickly. Also depending on build runner length matters for true power. Gils/SM work but you will give up power on an NA setup. Longer runner headers like cmi sweeper would be the best but they are 6k+ a set

Other thing you should check is your center to center dimension. Not sure what boat your have but that can limit your options as well. I had a 32' with only 32 5/8". (Not very common). Etops with aftermarket dart heads I had about a 1/16th" btwn the two inner. Lightening builds a header for tight centers but once again not exactly what I would consider if on a budget.
