Crude Intentions 02-21-2019 08:28 PM

I know you shave the msd distributor but I would look into the Daytona ignitions. A lot more tunability and very few reported issues which is opposite the msd. Good luck. Can’t wait to see how it turns out

Formula what are you running for exhaust and ignition setup, rev limiter ect? If you've been running this combo for quite some time I may just use that hydraulic flat tappet came you are using, Its very close to the roller setup I've been trying to find. It would save me money on a roller cam and lifters. 4 bolt block I take it?

Crane 731 cams are still made

731 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-168731/overview/

Basically same as 731 on a 114 lob sep for Gen IV & V https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-139771/overview/

Basically same came for 500EFI cam https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-168761/overview/

Thanks for the info, I was under the impression that since crane was out of business that their cams were no longer. My block is also a Gen IV(Learning and didn't realize this at the beginning of this adventure sorry guys) so unless I find another block I have to stick to the gen IV stuff which I have recently learned that my block has been line bored both cam and main bearing surfaces per the previous owner . That being said I would save money on machining there.
I really would like to keep my captains choice, due to boating late at night is a very common occurrence for me. Is there a cam and header/manifold option even if I buy a set of stainless risers and extend the tails as far as I can before the diverter valve, then I would not have to worry reversion with but still make decent power with the blower while keeping Captains choice? Or am I going to have to eliminate it and get even longer wet tails, at that point I might just go dry and not use that particular boat at night... Or just make ppl angry.

These are pic of how the old exhaust was setup to help with some new better options for what I'm trying to achieve. Stock style aluminum Glenwood replacement manifolds. The boat is currently being partially redone front and mid stringers, tank, helm, ect.

You can use a Gen VI cam in a Mark IV block if you use a Gen VI timing set:

I don’t think you’ll have an issue with reversion if retaining the captain’s call. The blower will produce enough positive pressure to help reduce any. There aren’t many complaints at all surrounding reversion with these cams; I think you’ll be fine.

After looking at the specs on the 771 cam Griff provided info on, I believe that is what I would like to go with. Now I have been looking into the swap from hyd flat tappet to roller. I am having a hard time finding the exact part #s I need and being 100% certain everything will work together. So far this is what I've come up with and I know I could call a few people to discuss this, but I figure I will ask here too.
Cam 771 for IV roller https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-139771/overview/
Lifters https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-13532-16
Valve springs https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-99896-16 Not Sure of. Assuming I need to figure out what valve I am buying before I pick these?
Rockers https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...make/chevrolet I have 7/16 studs I believe
Timing cover with Button https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...make/chevrolet
I have a timing gear set Cloyes double roller
Pushrods the more reading I do the more confused I am getting right now
And also and unsure of what Inconel exhaust valves to go with and valve retainers based on valves.

i have been running this setup for 4 years. I am running a dui ignition setup with a 5600rpm limiter. I am running Emi thunder exhausts with 3 inch taller risers. No issues with the flat cam at all. Crane does recommend the same exact valve spring part numbers for the 134561 cam as a 741 hydraulic roller, so if you want to go roller later the springs can stay.

79formula. What Head Gaskets did you go with. I bought the 134561 cam and appropriate valve springs, and I am about ready to start the engine assembly. I have been doing a ton of fiberglass work on this boat. New stringers, transom, floor, TRS to bravo swap. More work than I thought, also had never done fiberglass before any of this. I am getting excited to see the outcome for this year though.

Does anyone have a recommendation of what damper I should use besides the stock 525sc damper. I do have one that was removed, not sure what size as it is a fluid type damper. Not sure of torsional changes with the blower or how different sizes and types of dampers effect the torsional vibrations/harmonics of the engine. Rev limit 5300. I have the heads assembled using stainless steel valves also new cam and lifters. Hoping to do a cam break in by the end of the week. Thanks
