Have you tried boating in thicker water? 
I have no clue what I’m talking about, but as a neophyte my troubleshooting my troubleshooting would start with a new prop hub just to rule that out as it’s cheap and easy. I have fried an engine coupler and can tell you that there’s no mistaking it when that happens.
If the drive gear ratio is indeed sending to much torque overwhelming the prop like a muscle car with undersized tires then the solution would be bigger tires for more traction. Simply try a bigger prop and see what happens.

I'm thinking that's what the plan will be and see what happens...that is when all the ice is off the lakes lol
The labbed 30 I have is cupped a little I guess...I bought it used but that may help as well
