Looking at a boat with 2000 500 efi's. They have 450 hrs and the current owner does not have a maintenance history from previous owner but states the top ends were done at 350 hrs. The boat looks really clean/maintained but it's the any way to tell they had the top ends done? Should i stay away from 500efis with close to 500 hours even if they were done?

If it were me...I’d pop a valve cover off and look for replacement parts. OEM 500’s came with crane gold rockers and PAC springs. I would do a visual on both. Another indicator could be the factory lock wire on the motor. If it were dis-assembled the lockwire would be gone or altered.
The 500efi in general is a great motor. Take care of it and it will take care of you. If properly maintained no reason why it can’t go another 200-300 hours without major maintenance.
Good luck.

I would not be afraid of the motors have a compression test and a leak down test done befor you buy. Head gaskets on the 500s like to go in between the Cylinders. My boat is a 2000 with 500efis and is a great package i did my top ends around 350 as well
