525sc
Here’s what I got, a set of 525sc’s, one rebuilt 30 hours ago, other with a rebuilt blower. Stock heads were heavily ported. Want to kick them up, chillers abd pulleys for sure. I keep reading on converting to roller cams, what camis everyone putting in these? Thinking pull them apart, check out, add a little bit and then not worry about them (I guess that’s everyones goal haha!) |
I put the 731 in mine, haven't ran it in the boat but it ran like an ape on the dyno..... This was playing with different pullys

no chiller but alum heads,,731, 6 psi boost, we spun it harder and made 640 on one pull. the black is 4 pounds,,,

I also went with a Crane 731 when I did the top end on my old 525SC. I ran about 7.5# of boost with no chiller.
Finding smaller pulleys to fit the Merc 177 splined shafts is nearly impossible anymore. |
I got lucky, mine has been rebuilt with the keyed shaft
|
There has been some smokin' deals on chillers for the 177 in the swap shop section. Right after I bought new ones

does anyone have any more info on this? Where to get that shaft?
How much horsepower could you make out of the 525SC before changing to a bigger SC, could 700 hp be capable out of the 177 with the right heads, valvetrain, and pistons? I have also wondered if anyone has ever converted over to an EFI setup? Reason I ask is I have a pair of 525SC in my boat, I keep getting the bug to have a pair of 700-725 HP engines. I like the idea of keeping the 177 setup and improving it, but I also keep looking at switching to a Whipple EFI setup with good heads and a strong rotating assembly. |
