I agree on the factory arrestor unless you pull cover off and it looks like this in pictures. a lot of these look like this and are very choked down on the inside with crap adapters to make them fit, The factory Vortech is a really nice piece though but it does look like your filter element has seen its better day.

Question on this engine where could I put a fuel pressure sender for a fuel pressure gauge ?

you should have a Schrader valve on the fuel rail by the regulator you can screw onto that and have a gauge or see my pics my fuel rail is modded and I have a aeromotive regulator on the red anodized bracket behind intake with a liquid filled gauge, I feed the rail then the return goes out to regulator and then pressure is set there and I return excess fuel to fuel filler neck.

You seem to know about these MPIs,
Does GM have a replacement for the fuel regulator on the end of the fuel rail like some of the other sensors on the 7.4 LX MPI??

not sure if they make a replacement for it, I just searched around found the part number and scanned a bunch of sites to find the best price.
