Supercharger water intecooler feed line

Where is the best place to connect the water supply line to the supercharger water intercooler? Currently its has a tee fitting on the hose that goes from the outdrive to the seawater pump...

most run a 2 stage sea pump,

resurrected 07-11-2019 10:37 AM

I run two independent pickups and dump lines for the inter coolers

MILD THUNDER 07-11-2019 10:55 AM

Separate thru hull pickup

es99eliminator 07-11-2019 11:04 AM

resurrected - are you pickups through hull as well?

resurrected 07-11-2019 11:36 AM

Yes they are, the set up is new to me this year. In the process of reassembling, so no actual results. The reason I went with independent pickups instead of 2 stage pump was, at idle a cold inter-cooler can cause fuel to condense.

Sales staff at Teague advised that I shouldn't need pressure blow off valves at the 80++mph top speed I am hoping to get to
-10 pickup and supply with 2 x -8 dumps

If you live in a hot climate area, you may want to push water through it all of the time so it doesn't detinate after idling for any length of time.

payuppsucker 07-11-2019 02:27 PM

Mine are plumbed off the sea strainer.

IGetWet 07-11-2019 07:58 PM

Multiple ways of doing it but as mentioned above climate and water temps have a lot to do with how you want to plumb it.

mine idled like **** at ROTO with full time water going thru the cooler. I added separate pickup . and a drain so water doesn`t sit in them when not in use

I'd also suggest putting the T after the sea water pump. With the present set up if your intercooler drains down by itself, you could end up sucking air into your sea water pump which does not end well for the impellar.

All great ideas out there and thanks for the inputs...

An idea i thought of was i have another hole already drilled in my drive cavitation plate. The other side already has a drive shower.

My thought was to install another drive shower line on the cavitation plate and run a through transom fitting to a sea strainer and then straight to the intercooler. Should definitely have enough pressure running..

Seeing your location is Florida, curious would the water going through the cooler be salt water

F-2 Speedy 07-12-2019 04:14 PM

a 3/8 line supply line ?? most inter coolers require a -12 feed and discharge.........what type of cooler are you using

ICDEDPPL 07-12-2019 10:00 PM

yeah, a little drive shower line isn`t going to feed anything especially an intercooler. You need lots of volume and at least 10 psi.

es99eliminator 07-13-2019 10:48 AM

GPM - yes brackish water
F-2 - custom made intercooler i believe. Came with the boathttps://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c742347631.jpg

GPM 07-13-2019 02:40 PM

Looks like a modified M4 cooler, small hose feeding it, I would put water to it from the sea water pump, it will still reach 150 or so degrees after a mile at or near wide open throttle.

GPM 07-13-2019 02:42 PM

I would expect the salt to eat or clog that thing up, I could be wrong.

GPM 07-13-2019 02:43 PM

I also wonder about the condition of your air filter, could just be the picture.

es99eliminator 07-13-2019 05:48 PM

GPM- it's currently teed of the sea water pressure hose. This was an older pic as I have removed the air filter and have a supercharger mesh cover on the inlet to prevent debris from getting in there

es99eliminator 07-13-2019 05:51 PM

GPM=I don't see allot of pressure coming out of the outlet hose. My setup doesn't see a lot of water pressure on the gage. I rebuilt the sea water pump earlier this year. Engine stays cool .

GPM 07-13-2019 09:18 PM

You might want to put the T after the sea water pump so you are pressure feeding the cooler, where is the pick up in the drive ?

es99eliminator 07-14-2019 09:56 AM

GPM- yes bravo 1 drive, T is in the pressure line off the seawater pump

I pulled the thermostat back out and will run the boat today...I'll let you know temps when i get back..

es99eliminator 07-14-2019 04:08 PM

GLM- Took it out today and some magic must of happened between changing the alternator and removal of the thermostat.

MAT temps came down and the cooler was flowing alot better. Temps still got to around 140F after WOT runs but, cooled down.
No surging whats so ever. Boat ran fantastic. Best its run in a while.
checked inter cooler discharge while running and pressure increases as rpm comes up.
As most boosted situations it probably could use a little bigger cooler. or one that flows more.

Pro Charger doesn't want you to run a thermostat, the M4 cooler isn't the best. If your drive has a low water pick up similar to the Imco you can extend the opening to get more water to the motor.

es99eliminator 07-15-2019 02:12 PM

GLM- Yes I have the low water pickup..how do i extend the opening?

R,

E

GPM 07-16-2019 09:32 PM

On the Imco you can make the slot longer not sure on the Bravo
