Wondering if anyone knows a good close to stock replacement cam for my gen v 502 mag mpi, just looking for a close to stock maybe something a little better that I can use with stock springs.

This has been a popular topic over the years. A search will drum up a lot of information (via Google... include "offshoreonly" in your search terms).

With the above said it would be best to stick with the stock camshaft in order to avoid having to mess with the ECM. Any changes will more than likely require tuning to keep it running correctly. These engines can be very sensitive to changes; the last thing you'd want is to burn it down.

I've had thoughts of upgrading my Gen VI 502 MPIs, but in the end it's too much work and expense for gains that may give you a mile per hour or two. If I do anything with these, they will be turned into 540s with either carburetors or aftermarket (Holley) fuel injection.

I'm sure others will chime in. Good luck!

I believe the stock cam is the GM one below that ends in '209'

If you lost a lobe or lifter, I’d be concerned with metal in the bearings. At a minimum I’d cut open the oil filter to look for evidence of damage.

If you’re already in the middle of a rebuild, then disregard.
