Default Repower, Thinking of Ateco 540/635 engines

Hi all,
I have a 96 42' Fountain with staggered HP500's and they have served me well. 20 years ago went to aluminum heads and they started leaking into the cylinders, what a milkshake mess!
I have been looking at EFI 500's and 525's W/O much luck on a pair and not sure what I'm getting.
I saw on a website an exchange HP 500 for 540/635 HP engine by Ateco. A complete drop in, seems like a nice package and a fair price at $12,500 each.
Has anyone upgraded with this engine package and experiences?
I'm in CA so any warranty work would be a problem.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations or thoughts.

Looked at them but I would do some research on them first, did look at blue print motors also.

You should be able to turn your HP500's into 540's with 650+ hp for less than $12500 each. Nothing against Ateco, but I would use a builder closer to you.

There are good and bad stories on them, just do some reading, I agree with Griff you can build yours into them as you have some parts already..

Agree with above. And if you aren't aware of them. Boostpower and Teague not to far from you, if your location is current on your profile. Those 2 are top notch, worth the drive. At least call them discuss your needs.

Know them both, I’ve talked to Boost, Pfaff/Baca and GT, all in excess of $18,000.
I have not called Teague, he is usually pricey, but excellent work.
Pfaff/Baca did the original engines in 1997, $18,000 for both with blowers. Took the blowers off as I broke drives and was over it.
Now they are $18,000 each. 😡
Just spent 10K on the drives. Nothing like spending $48,000 on a boat worth $65,000.
But it is in such awesome shape, it’s had a pretty spoiled life.
Thats for the input guys, I’ll work the local builders again.

Expensive hobby, we always spend so much on it with no money back, I learned long ago to let that go or sell boat LOL

I talked to Teague about doing my HP 500 at Desert Storm this year. He quoted it out at 22k to do the conversion and sent me a 6 page parts list on it. The only other thing of note is he uses the same crank as he's not a fan of strokers in short deck block. He said he prefers a piston with a longer skirt, also that it's easier on drives to run more RPM then keeping the RPM and torque down low.

If you end up going with AETCO please post up or PM me as I'm in the market for this same setup as well.
