I finally got around to getting the heads off and in to be gone thru...I think I’m going to put the 651 cams in since I have them...any recommendations on lifters and rockers? A buddy has been running the Compcams 15854-16 couple seasons without problems...

I just built a pair of 500 EFI's and used the Comp Cams Pro magnum rockers and if this is a Gen 6 block you can run the GM 17120060 lifters with the dog bone hold downs don't need to go tie bar unless you want to.

according to this article the gen V uses the same style lifter that I mentioned

The Gen V conversion to hydraulic roller lifters also effected revisions to the lifter valley with taller cast-in lifter bores needed to accommodate the increased height of the roller lifters. The lifter valley also incorporated a few minor additions of dogbones and a sheet metal “spider” to retain the lifters that we’ll illustrate in the accompanying photo.

You also need to upgrade the head gaskets and I would add ARP head bolts

lucky cat 01-31-2020 08:55 AM

Yea, switching to MLS head gaskets and planned on ARP bolts...the bolts should be standard size like the ARP-135-3701...correct?( I’m using the 088 heads)

Thinking about this again, you should probably put in a better than stock style OE lifter, your going to be raising the revs and making a lot more power, make sure the valve springs are correct.
